Students who are eligible for Post-9/11 and Yellow Ribbon Program benefits can still apply for financial aid with UM. In accordance with University policy, military/veterans’ benefits are considered a resource when calculating eligibility for the institution’s need-based aid programs. If you have not earned any college credits after high school graduation, you should apply as a first-year student and abide by all first-year deadlines and requirements. If you have taken college credits after high school graduation, regardless of how many credits earned, you should apply as a transfer student and abide by all transfer deadlines and requirement. If you are a military/veteran dependent who is graduating from high school, you must apply as a first-year student.
If you are a Spring or Fall 2023 prospective student with fewer than 30 post-secondary credits at the time you apply for admission, you will not be required to submit ACT and/or SAT scores. Please note that if you are currently enrolled in courses, these do not count toward the 30-credit requirement.

Yes, the Common Application fee is waived for active military/veterans and their dependents. Be sure to choose the "Military/Veteran Fee Waiver" option when submitting your Common Application.
It is important to note the evaluation of applications by the admission committee is comprehensive and holistic, which means that we select students on the basis of many attributes. These attributes include military training and experience, appropriate academic record (either in high school or college), a personal essay (where applicants are able to convey their academic and life goals), and letters of recommendation.
Yes, the $500 nonrefundable enrollment deposit fee will be waived for active military members.
UM offers an array of resources including career planning, counseling, and tutoring for our Veteran Student community that are vital to the transition to campus life. We also have a Veteran Students Organization that brings military veterans together in order to foster fellowship and mentoring among those attending UM.
