There are various ways you can apply for admission as a first-year or transfer applicant. Review your options and decide which one works best for you!

Admission and financial aid applications, for both first-year and transfer applicants, that remain incomplete by the stated deadlines will be at a distinct disadvantage and likely will not be admitted.

  • EARLY DECISION I

    Early Decision I (EDI) is our early, binding application option for applicants who are committed to attending UM if admitted. Deadline to apply is November 1.

    Students who apply EDI must complete and submit the Early Decision Agreement form, available through the Common Application. All EDI applicants are considered for our Premier Scholarships in addition to merit scholarships.

  • EARLY ACTION

    Early Action (EA) is our early, non-binding application option. Deadline to apply is November 1. Students who apply EA are considered for our Premier Scholarships in addition to merit scholarships.

  • EARLY DECISION II

    Early Decision II (EDII) is our early, binding application option for applicants who are committed to attending UM if admitted. Deadline to apply is January 5.

    Students who apply EDII must complete and submit the Early Decision Agreement form, available through the Common Application. Students applying EDII are considered for merit scholarships.

  • REGULAR DECISION

    Regular Decision (RD) is our final, non-binding application option. The deadline to apply for Regular Decision is January 5.

    If you are applying to the Frost School of Music, the deadline to apply for this admission plan is December 1. Students applying RD are considered for merit scholarships.

  • FINAL CREDENTIALS DEADLINE

    Final Credentials Deadline is the date that test scores and all supporting documents listed on the Application Checklist in your Applicant Portal must be on file for consideration. This is also the deadline to change your major for a major in another school or college.

    EDI, EA, and EDII students whose application is incomplete by the Final Credentials Deadline will have their application rolled over into the Regular Decision plan. 

  • FINANCIAL AID DEADLINE

    Financial Aid Deadline is for any applicant interested in applying for Financial Aid. All applicants must complete the CSS Profile. The FAFSA is only required for U.S. citizens and eligible non-residents. Admitted students will receive their financial aid offer with the admission decision.

*EDI and EDII applicants must complete and submit the Early Decision Agreement form, available through the Common Application.

Frost School of Music Regular Decision applicants must apply by December 1. Please follow the instructions for applying to the Frost School of Music.

Spring First-Year and Transfer: Admission Plans & Deadlines

Transfer applicants have two entry term options. Both Spring First-Year and Transfer applications and/or supporting documents received after the stated deadlines will be reviewed on a space available basis.

Interested in one of our performance based majors, BFA programs, or architecture? If applying to the School of Architecture, the Frost School of Music, or a BFA program in the College of Arts and Sciences, review the requirements for your chosen school and the corresponding deadlines for those materials.

  • SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE (ALL ADMISSION PLANS)

    First-Year applicants who do not submit test scores are required to submit a portfolio. Transfer students are not required to submit a portfolio.

  • FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC (FALL ONLY)

    The Frost School of Music requires applicants to submit a supplemental application, prescreen, and audition.

    Prescreen and audition are not needed if you are applying for the Audio Technology (BS) major or the Music Industry BA major.

  • COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES: ART BFA

    First-Year applicants who do not submit test scores are required to submit a portfolio via the Applicant Portal. 

    Portfolios should be submitted as a PDF booklet containing 15 to 20 images of your best work, along with a one-page (max) artist statement. Each image should include the title, medium, year, and size of the artwork.

  • COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES: THEATRE ARTS BFA (FALL ONLY)

    Applicants interested in majoring in the Theatre Arts BFA program are required to submit additional materials, regardless of whether they submit test scores. The Stage Management and Design/Technical Production programs require a portfolio. The Musical Theatre program requires an Audition Request Form with a fee and an audition.
