At UM, your education extends beyond the classroom walls to labs, studios, hospitals, museums, internships- and even countries half way around the world. With access to a major metropolitan city, the real-world learning opportunities abound.


Location, location, location. 'Canes benefit from real-world experience in government, non-profit organizations, multinational corporations, and everything in between. Our students intern at U.S. Southern Command, Royal Caribbean, International Rescue Committee, and World Fuel Services, just to name a few. Not your thing? American Airlines, NBC Universal, Hilton International, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, and many more are also located in our own backyard.

Office of Civic and Community Engagement

Translate your academic experience into real-world problem solving skills and help build stronger connections between UM and the greater Miami community. Enroll in service-learning courses that link the classroom and the community, sign up for the UM Civic Scholars Program, participate in the Civic Engagement High School Partnership, or design a community-based research project.

Study Abroad

The world is your classroom when you participate in one of our study abroad programs. You can take architecture in Madrid or history in Hong Kong; you'll see how living and learning abroad offers opportunity to grow as a citizen of the world.

Summer Programs

At Miami, summer is the time to venture outside your comfort zone. The Division of Continuing and International Education offers experiential courses. You’ll also find Summer & Intersession programs in Italy, England, and more.
