Academic Resources

Whether you need help with homework or finding a job, the University of Miami is there for you. Here are just some of the resources available to you as a UM student.

Academic Resource Center (ARC)

The ARC helps students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators advance potential and manage success. It provides support through tutoring, workshops, disability services, UMX (a course for new incoming students), learning specialists and faculty, as well as additional services for parents and academic support programs like the Independent Learning Initiative. Peer tutoring is offered in a wide selection of courses. Tutoring sessions are available individually or in groups during final review sessions. Students can also sign up for a variety of workshops, including time management, effective note-taking, and surviving finals. 

Academic and Career Advisors in Residence (ACARs)

Advisors from the Academic and Career Advisors in Residence (ACARs) assist students with academic orientation, major and career selection, and referrals to the appropriate academic support services.

The Writing Center

The professional and friendly staff at the Writing Center offers one-on-one assistance to students strengthen their skills at every stage in the writing process by helping them write and edit their own work.

Toppel Career Center

Whether you’re a degree-seeking student or first-year alumni, the Toppel Career Center can help you uncover your true calling, gain relevant job skills, apply for internships and job opportunities and even help you navigate through the graduate school application process. You can participate in interview and resume writing workshops, career assessments, and more. 

The Launch Pad

A part of the Toppel Career Center, the Launch Pad offers career guidance, resources, and advice to entrepreneurs, innovators, and inventors at the University of Miami. The basic goal of the Launch Pad is to show UM students and alumni that starting a new venture is a solid career path. It also encourages initiating the venture in South Florida, to contribute to the economic growth of the region.

Hire A ‘Cane

Hire A ’Cane is our online career management system, offered through the Toppel Career Center. Here, students can access career resources, post resumes, and search for jobs and internships.


Blackboard is where students can access class materials online posted by their professors.

Computer Labs

Computer labs on the Coral Gables campus are located in the Richter Library and in each residential college. All labs are staffed with assistants to help students.
