  • Do you accept evaluations from evaluation services other than Josef Silny & Associates, Inc.?

    No, only evaluations from Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. (JS&A), which include a course-by-course with a GPA calculation, will be accepted for undergraduate admission consideration. For detailed information, visit UM's JS&A Application.

  • Is there any way to waive the Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. evaluation?

    If you meet any of the following criteria, your JS&A evaluation will be waived: 

    • Students whose Request to Waive Evaluation of Foreign Educational Credentials has been approved
    • Students graduating from an accredited U.S. high school abroad
    • Students graduating from an IB Curriculum abroad
    • Students graduating with a Cambridge AICE Diploma
    • Students pursuing 3-4 A-Level courses and have obtained IGCSE and AS-Level results
    • Students graduating from a high school in Canada
      • EXCEPT Quebec
    • Students graduating from a high school in the United Kingdom
    • Students graduating from a high school in the Caribbean (CXC) earning a CAPE Certificate
      • EXCEPT students in a Dutch, French, and/or Dominican educational system

  • How long will the evaluation take?

    Standard Processing Time: Evaluations are normally prepared in 10 business days from the receipt of all required fees, information, and documentation. Evaluations that require extensive research and correspondence may take longer to prepare.

    The following rush evaluation reports are available:

    • 24-Hour Evaluation Report
    • 2-Day Evaluation Report
    • 5-Day Evaluation Report

    The rush fee will be adjusted to reflect the actual processing time, and a refund of the difference will be issued. Rush evaluation reports must be paid for by bank check, money order, or credit card. 

  • What is required to send for evaluation?

    • A completed Application for Evaluation of Foreign Educational Credentials signed by the applicant.
    • A nonrefundable evaluation fee in U.S. dollars
      • Make the bank check or money order payable to Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. (JS&A cannot accept postal money orders or payments through Western Union). If you are paying by a credit card, you must fill out the Credit Card Information form. All evaluation fees, including fees for a rush report, 24-hour report, grade point average equivalent, extra copies, and translation are NONREFUNDABLE.
    • Educational Documents:
      • Official original diplomas and certificates in the original language
      • Official original transcripts in the original language (names of courses, grades, and hours of instruction) for every year of study. It is the responsibility of applicants to submit academic credentials, which need to be evaluated.
    • Translations: Documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by professional, certified English translations.
    • Translations supplement but do not replace the original documents. JS&A offers professionally certified translations.
    • JS&A is a Corporate Member of the American Translators Association. For further information on the JS&A Translation Service, call (305-273-1616), email (, or fax (305-273-1984) your request for a translation estimate along with all pertinent documents.
    • Please note: a syllabus of university studies (description of each course or subject studied) may be required for Course-by-Course Evaluations, but you do not need to send this with your application. If it is needed, JS&A will request it.
    • Applicants must submit self-addressed, stamped envelopes for the return of their original academic credentials, or pay for delivery by secure means. Applicants must submit pre-addressed labels or envelopes for mailing of evaluation reports to any location other than the applicant’s address.

  • Do I have to send a second copy of the documents to the University of Miami?

    No, international transcripts should not be submitted directly to the University of Miami Office of Undergraduate Admission. All documents required by JS&A must be submitted directly by the applicant to JS&A.

  • How much does it cost?

    JS&A accepts no liability for loss or damage of academic credentials during mailing. The applicants are responsible for any verification fees charged by their universities.

  • If I’m a part of a U.S./British/IB program, do I still have to send my information to Josef Silny & Associates, Inc.?

    If you are enrolled in a U.S., British, or IB curriculum, you DO NOT need to go through JS&A. 

  • Can I get a refund if I am not admitted?

    All evaluation fees, including fees for rush reports, 24-hour reports, grade point average equivalents, extra copies, and translations are NONREFUNDABLE.
