Each year, the University of Miami selects a small group of exceptional and academically accomplished high school students to receive the Ronald A. Hammond Scholarship — one of the University's most selective and prestigious academic scholarship awards.
University of Miami Hammond Scholars receive full tuition each year for four years of undergraduate study at UM.
Prospective scholars must apply as freshman applicants to the University of Miami under either the early decision/early action deadline of November 1 or the regular decision deadline of January 1. There is no separate application required to be considered for the Hammond Scholarship – applicants are automatically considered when they apply for admission to UM.
Hammond Scholarship finalists are nominated by the admission committee and are invited to the University of Miami campus to take part in a two-day event. During the event, scholarship finalists and their families will learn about the unique educational and leadership opportunities available to the best and brightest students at the University of Miami. Finalists also learn about the University of Miami's interest-driven education, meet both current and other prospective student scholars, and attend a special scholarship dinner. After the weekend, a committee selects the final group of students whom they recommend to receive the Hammond Scholarship based on the students' overall achievement and performance during the weekend.
The Hammond Scholarship is named after Ronald A. Hammond, the University’s first director of minority affairs.
