President's Scholarship

Students considered for an academic scholarship have significant academic achievement. Those selected to receive a scholarship take the most challenging curriculum, earn in the highest grades, and are at the top of our applicant pool. Students are automatically considered for the President's Scholarships when they apply for admission to the University. Students selected to receive a President's Scholarship will be notified no later than the end of March via his/her CaneLink account by the Office of Undergraduate Admission. Students applying for a second Bachelor degree are not eligible to receive a President's Scholarship.

Academic Scholarship Amount:

Ranges from $18,000-$28,000 annually

Canes Achievement Award

This merit-based award recognizes students for their significant accomplishments inside and outside of the classroom.

Academic Scholarship Amount:

Ranges from $5,000-$16,000 annually

Premier Academic Scholarships and Amount:

The most academically competitive students accepted to the freshman class may be considered for a Premier Scholarship.

Students applying for future terms should use this scholarship information as a general guideline. Scholarships are subject to change for future applicants.

Scholarships, when combined with other tuition-restricted awards, may not exceed tuition for the award period. The total of financial assistance awarded a student from all sources, including scholarships, grants, loans, and need-based employment, cannot exceed the total cost of attendance for the award period as defined by the Office of Student Financial Assistance and Employment. In the event a student's awards exceed either of these limits, the financial aid award, including the scholarship, will be adjusted to eliminate the over award.

Eligibility and Award Decisions

Students are automatically considered for the President's Scholarships when they apply for admission to the University. The University of Miami takes into account students' high school grades, difficulty of course curriculum, extracurricular activities, essay, and guidance counselor recommendation(s), as well as the overall quality of the pool of applicants applying to the university each year when making scholarship award decisions. The SAT/ACT is not required for applicants studying outside of the United States regardless of citizenship. However, students who graduate from a school within the United States are required to submit the SAT/ACT for scholarship consideration. A student may receive only one academic scholarship from the Office of Undergraduate Admission.

The Scholarship Committee will make the final determination on all scholarship awards.

To be eligible for academic scholarships, international candidates must submit a complete application for admission with all academic credentials, including a bank letter by the deadline listed below. The bank letter must indicate the applicant will be able to cover the difference between the scholarship award and the total cost of attendance.

Please note that the University does not have academic scholarships to award for Spring semester enrollment.

Do These Scholarships Impact Other Financial Aid Awards?

Requirements for Scholarship Renewal

Credit Completion and Minimum Cumulative GPA based on Credit Hours Earned

1. At least 24 credit hours each academic year (minimum of 12 each semester.)

2. At least 12 credit hours for full-time students enrolled for only one semester. (Withdrawals, incompletes, audits, and Fs are attempted but not considered earned hours.) 3.0 academic year
3. Only credits taken at UM count towards these requirements.

Scholarship recipients must complete a full-time program of study, that is, no fewer than 12 credit hours during each of the fall and spring semesters for a minimum of 24 credits per academic year. The University may, at its discretion, change the name and funding source of any awarded scholarship. This will not affect the amount of scholarship dollars a student will receive. Please refer to the Office of Student Financial Assistance Satisfactory Academic Progress for additional information about renewal eligibility.

Please note: Scholarship recipients should always check with the Office of Student Financial Assistance and Employment when adding any awards from outside agencies to find out the full impact of such awards on the total University financial aid award. Students should never assume that their original financial aid award will remain the same if such awards are added. The University reserves the right to modify any financial aid award at any time due to changes in eligibility.
