Transfer Checklist

There are a few items to take care of to ensure a smooth transition to life as a ’Cane. Please address each of the items below as soon as possible and no later than the first day of classes. Review important dates and deadlines for spring here.


Master Checklist


  1. Accept your offer and submit your $500 enrollment deposit in CaneLink.
  2. Check your UM email daily.
  3. Confirm your contact information on CaneLink.
  4. Consider housing options: On-Campus Housing and Off-Campus Housing.
  5. Register for 'Cane Kickoff on CaneLink.
  6. Set up delegate/proxy access in CaneLink.
  7. *If entering the U.S. on an F-1 or J1 visa, scan a copy of your bank/government sponsorship letter and the first page of your passport.
  8. Complete financial assistance To-Do items in CaneLink.
  9. Starting November 27, follow school-specific instructions to complete your course registration.
  10. If applicable, submit a request for disability accommodations.
  11. If your tuition is paid by a third-party sponsor, submit your Financial Guarantee Letter to the Office of Student Account Services.
  12. Starting January 2, complete the UMX online course.
  13. *If entering the U.S. on an F-1 or J-1 visa, pay the SEVIS fee and apply for a student visa.
  14. Submit your final high school transcript, AP and IB scores, and dual enrollment course credit. All exam scores must be sent directly from the appropriate testing agency. For AP, the University of Miami’s school code is 5815.
  15. Accept or waive University-sponsored health insurance.
  16. Consider purchasing a campus parking pass.
  17. Pay your tuition invoice by January 5 or within 30 days of registering for classes.
  18. *If entering the U.S. on an F-1 or J-1 visa, familiarize yourself with U.S. entry procedures.
  19. If utilizing V.A. educational benefits, contact the VA Certifying Official.
  20. *International students, attend International Student Orientation.
  21. By January 16, complete Part 1 of “Think About It” UM’s Online Alcohol and Drug Education course.
  22. Participate in all three days of ’Cane Kickoff.
  23. Confirm you have arrived on campus.
  24. Complete health center immunizations.
