The five-year B.S./M.S. degree in Marine Geology allows exceptional students to pursue an accelerated program in the undergraduate Geological Sciences and graduate Marine Geology & Geophysics programs. The degree consists of an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences from the College of Arts & Sciences, combined with a graduate Master of Science degree from the Division of Marine Geology and Geophysics at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, one of the country’s leading oceanographic institutions.
Undergraduates have the opportunity to work with top-level research scientists in Geology and Marine Geology, conducting intensive field-study and laboratory work of Earth processes and Earth history. By spring of their junior year, students will be initiating an undergraduate thesis as preparation for the M.S. In their senior year, students will increase the focus on graduate courses and work closely with their graduate faculty member.
Students may also be eligible for an undergraduate program in Privileged Studies, designed for students who enter UM with advanced knowledge in several disciplines. Privileged Studies provides flexibility in designing a course of study without the limitations of the conventional course distribution requirements.
SAT II scores are not required for this program.
