Dual-Degree Program in Law

The Dual-Degree Program in Law is an exciting opportunity offered to competitive high school seniors and current undergraduate students at UM who have an interest in earning a law degree at the University of Miami. Through this program, students with high academic ability and excellent standardized test scores gain admission to both undergraduate study at the University of Miami’s College of Arts & Sciences and to graduate study at the University of Miami School of Law. Dual-degree students who meet all program requirements will save a year by completing their B.A. and J.D. degrees in six years instead of seven.

This innovative program is available to students who complete three years in residence at UM in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Application requirements for the Dual-Degree Program in Law:

  • Minimum SAT score of 1400 (combined Math and Critical Reading scores) or a 30 on the ACT.
  • Submission of the Dual-Degree in Law Supplemental Application.
  • Note: Students may apply to the Dual-Degree Program when applying for undergraduate admission or anytime after their freshman year, as long as they meet the initial admission requirements.

Requirements to be promoted to the Law School:

  • A student must meet all standards the Law School Admissions Committee requires, which include registering for the Law School Admissions Council Credential Assembly Service (LSAC CAS), and submitting the electronic application to the School of Law by the preferred deadline date in their 3rd year. The School of Law application fee will be waived for dual-degree students.
  • The student must take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT).
  • Students must earn 90 credits in their undergraduate degree (3 years) at UM. The 90 credit requirement must fulfill the University’s Cognates Program of General Education.
  • The student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 in all college-level courses.

Note: In order to be competitive for merit-based scholarships, a strong LSAT is required.

Any student who decides to continue their undergraduate studies for a fourth year of study will forego their designation as a Dual-Degree Program in Law student.
